Mother Jones is an odd magazine: the topics covered in the magazine are mostly interesting. The articles however are extremely long and contain next to no information. Don't get me wrong, I am all for long articles... if they contain well summarized, well researched information. This is not the case for most articles in Mother Jones. It seems that the authors are trying to hide as little information as possible in a 10 page long prose story about sympathetic characters. In some cases, a bit more semi-humorous information is hidden amongst some drawings.
All in all, this seems like kids news for hip grown-ups: the author knows that the reader doesn't really care about complicated stuff such as politics or economics, but still wants to pretend to be a well-informed intellectual, so he wraps about a bit of information in a nice story. Some people might like that kind of journalism, I prefer real news!
And be warned: if you subscribe to Mother Jones, you will be flooded with junk mail.

Mother Jones is an essential periodical for those that want hard-hitting investigative journalism. They will grill members from both sides of the aisle. Wonderful and timely features inspire me in each and every issue. I would highly recommend this magazine to those who strive to advocate for the best in the planet in terms of economic, social, and environmental policies.

Great publication, 5 stars. My only comment is this: As is the case with other magazine subscriptions sold here at Amazon, it's cheaper to just order the magazine from the publisher's website. For example, as of yesterday (Dec. 22) the cost is $15/year through Amazon, but visit the Mother Jones website and it costs only $10. Shop around! :)

this magazine is usually well received among progressive activists although many of us had a major problem with some coverage in the past. i won't get to it at this time but i must say that the last one i've read (?May/June edition) had a very good coverage in the issue of the prison industrial complex, putting human faces behind all the build up of prisons, the absurd increase in the prison population in the U.S. by far leading in the incarceration of our people, young and old alike, the racist system we still live in, etc. also, the coverage for the issue of foreclosure was very thorough and finally shed some light on my questions regarding the reasons why, and who is responsible for this mess. check it out.
